From his native Ireland Brian emigrated to New York State and earned a B.A. from the State University of New York. In Montreal Brian began his career in theatre with Youtheatre as an actor. In Halifax he worked in the multi-arts in the city's playgounds and parks with Youtharts as an actor/ musician/ improvisor. Since arriving in Winnipeg in 1970 he has enjoyed a varied career as a journalist, playwright, poet, folk musician, actor, director, artistic director and folk festival host. He entered the realm of what is loosely refered to as Thematic Theatre in 1990 by producing Heritage Theatre for the Forks National Historic site, serving as a playwright and director for the next fourteen years. He has created performances for The Manitoba Museum, The Manitoba Hotel Association, CancerCare Manitoba, Riding Mountain National Park, and, especially, Green Kids. Since 2002 Brian has directed and written many of the theatrical works the company has taken to schools and communities across Western Canada, with a few forays into Ontario. He continues to find the work absorbing and stimulating. In 2015 Brian was presented by ACTRA Manitoba with The Victor Cowie Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Performing Arts in Manitoba.
